St. Peter’s was very pleased to welcome the Rev. John Kafwanka to our worship on Sunday, June 14, 2015.   Originally from Zambia, John is the Director of Mission for the world-wide Anglican Communion with offices in London, UK. He is passionate about discipleship: how we live it out in our everyday lives and how examples and resources on discipleship can be shared with others around the world. He was visiting Rupert’s Land at Bishop Don’s invitation, to learn more about the growing emphasis on discipleship taking place in our Diocese. As our guest preacher, John reminded us of the Good News that God loves us unconditionally; that God calls us to love God and invites us to join with God in loving the world. We are the witnesses to God’s love in the world. As disciples we honour God in the power of the Holy Spirit; we are called to ‘love Jesus, live Jesus, serve Jesus’.

On Sunday afternoon, Donna Joy and Margaret Clarke welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Rev. Kafwanka and others in the Diocese to exchange information on what is happening with discipleship in different parishes. John had heard good things about the ways in which we are ‘growing disciples’ at St. Peter’s. It was a delight to share a little about our visioning process and how it is shaping our worship and work.  We were also really pleased to offer concrete examples of our growing discipleship: the Atrium and the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for young children; adult Christian Education programs; and new initiatives in Outreach projects. God is working in and through us at St. Peter’s – thanks be to God!
